Sri Sri's Visit

Jan. 25: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, spiritual master, humanitarian and founder of the Art of Living, commences a three-day tour of Tamil Nadu on Monday, January 26 with a visit to Mandapam at Rameswaram to meet the Sri Lankan Tamils living in the refugee camps. His visit assumes significance in the context of the current developments in the island nation, propelling a large influx of displaced Sri Lankan Tamils living in the refugee camps.
Mr Joseph Enok, senior faculty and member of the Tamil Nadu apex body of the Art of Living said Sri Sri Ravishankar intends to spend quality time with the refugees and is keen on providing solace to them. Sri Sri Ravishankar will be participating in two major events in Trichy on January 27 and in Chennai on January 28.
Jan. 28: Pulling up the Union government for not providing sufficient funds to Sanskrit schools and colleges in the country, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder, Art of Living, on Wednesday said that it was not proper on the part of the Centre to be biased against a particular language.
“In this country 85 per cent of the people are Hindus. The Centre is not willing to provide adequate funds for the development of Sanskrit, which is one of the oldest languages in the country, but confers CBSE school status to madrasas run by Muslims, who are only five per cent of the population in the country,” he said while inaugurating a three-day national seminar at the University of Madras.
Taking a dig at universities imparting Sanskrit for not submitting more projects for grant from the Centre, Ravi Shankar said that the universities should enrol more students in the Sanskrit department and pressurise the Centre for getting their due share of grants.
The spiritual leader also said that it was due to lack of knowledge on “agamas” that the world was facing hardships.
